Farm Business Management Celebrated 70 years with Governor’s Proclamation

St. Cloud, Minn (September 11, 2023) – For the past seventy years, Farm Business Management has been serving students, while also adapting to consistent changes in Agriculture and governance. Minnesota FBM is known for delivering a consistent education on farm financial management. The program uses annual FBM reports as a textbook, enabling the student to access current data for informed decision making. The primary delivery method is an individualized instruction providing a unique educational plan for each student. Tailoring education to the individual results in learning that is applied at a faster rate. Instructors work in a real time setting where a dynamic business requires education that can be applied in the near term to generate the greatest impact for the student.

To celebrate, a committee of current and retired FBM instructors, Center for Farm Financial Management, Minnesota Agricultural Education Leadership Council, Minnesota State Southern Center of Excellence, and AgCentric, joined to bring the celebration to life. The event was held at the Holiday Inn and Suites in St. Cloud, MN. Event attendees were able to walk through the historical display area before and after the evening’s program and meal.

Minnesota Governor, Tim Walz, released a signed Governor’s Proclamation naming September 12, 2023, as Farm Business Management Education Day. AgCentric Executive Director, Keith Olander, received the Governor’s Proclamation from Minnesota Department of Agriculture Assistant Commissioner, Patrice Bailey, who read the proclamation during the celebration program. Past Mangement Dean and FBM Instructor, DelRay Lecy guided the celebration’s festivities with his m/c work and was the driving force to make the night the success that it became, with his leadership and foresight.

“The current program was built on the shoulders of dedicated instructors and leaders over the years.” says AgCentric Executive Director, Keith Olander. We will continue to celebrate Farm Business Management’s first seventy years with our historical webpage FBM 70th Anniversary – AgCentric.
